S1E11: A fun “Shoot the Bull” (STB) episode! Richard and Mckenna are both seeing ghosts in our new apartment!

This week we took a break from the movie reviews to address some of the emails we have received. At the time of this publishing we have 10% of our readers in the United Kingdom, 1% in Pakistan and now 1% in Saudi Arabia. We are super excited about that and want to thank everyone who has listened and/or read the blog. This has been so fun and exciting for us and we are humbled and touched by the support of the listeners. We NEVER expected anyone beyond our kids and friends to listen and we THANK YOU!!!

We have received almost 40 emails from all over the world with questions and suggestions. We couldn’t address them all but chose a few to answer and discuss on the podcast.

The first question was from Charles in the UK (England specifically). Charles asked why we started the podcast in the first place. We have discussed this before but not everyone listens to every podcast or reads every blog. Richard had discussed with me doing a podcast back over a year ago. He wanted to see how it all worked and was interested in doing one. I was not. He was asked to be a guest on a friend’s podcast and then subsequently I was asked to be a guest on the same podcast. WE BOTH LOVED IT!! We re-visited the podcast thing and threw some ideas around about it.

We have always tried to set aside one night a week for our date night. With both of us coming from a failed marriage we put so much into making this one right. When COVID hit it changed the dynamics of our dating. We decided that since we were not able to go to restaurants or the movies we would do a podcast in order to spice up our talks and spending time together. The Reel Couple was born from this. Now, no matter what is going on in life, we set time aside and go into the studio and record a podcast.

We talked about how fascinated we were with British accents and wondered if they were as fascinated by ours. We also had to spend some time discussing my fascination with Lisa Vanderpump. Richard has decided he wants to come back in another life as one of her pets because they are so spoiled!!

The next question came from Brody in New York. He sent an interesting email talking about the paranormal and stating he loved all the ghost talk. He was curious to know if Richard had seen anything else in our new apartment. Well, Brody, it just so happens that my daughter, Mckenna, says she saw something last weekend. When she asked us about it, Richard said it was the same thing he sees. I woke up last weekend to a text from my daughter that had been sent after midnight and said, “MOM, I just saw someone walk from your bedroom door to the bathroom and ya’ll are asleep and no-one is in the bathroom!!” She mentioned it to Richard and told him what she saw and it was the same thing in the same spot as what he has been seeing. That opened up a fun conversation between them! He has heard the silverware in the kitchen clinking. We talked about the fact that I believe something is attached to Richard.

I also disclosed that Richard was doing the podcast shirtless and needed his chest hair trimmed (TMI but sometimes we just say what we think on this podcast with no filter).

Malcolm from the UK sent us a long email and told us how much he enjoyed the podcast and listening to our banter. He has decided he wants to be mentioned on every podcast and will keep boosting us up until he is considered our new mascot. (Watch out Robby!!!!!!)

Malcolm asked if we had watched any movies or tv shows from the UK. We watched Downton Abbey and loved it! We both thought when we first heard about it that it would be boring. No nudity, no foul language, no adult content at all… boooring. It is not! We loved it and binged it all in a few weeks and even watched the movie! We also recently watched MI-5 starring Kit Harrington and it was okay. It would have been better if someone else had directed or produced it. We discussed the tv show The Fall and the movie The Conjuring 2 took place in England and we loved it. I wanted to throw in how much I loved Gordon Ramsey and Clive Owen!!! We would love someone to send in some suggestions of true BBC movies that we could watch preferably with British directors as well. Thank you Malcolm and we hope you will let us know what to review!! (sidenote: we already have more emails from Malcolm!!)

We FINALLY heard from a listener in Pakistan! Adnan asked the same as Malcolm but for his country. He wants to know if we had or would watch any movie based out of Pakistan.

I don’t think we have actually watched a Pakistani movie but we have watched some Middle Eastern movies. I am not sure exactly what country they were made in but we have watched (or tried to ) a zombie movie that we think was Indian but it was so bad we had to turn it off. Everything about it was horrific. Now we did watch a great horror movie named Bhoot. It is an Indian film that we had heard about and watched and LOVED. It is well acted, great graphics and design, wonderful, creepy storyline. Bhoot means ghost in Indian and it is quite the ghost story and with a creative twist at the end! On air we asked Adnan to please send us some ideas of movies he either recommends or wants us to watch for him to review!!

The next question was from Emily in Australia who asked what we do for a living. Well, Emily, I am a Registered Nurse and have been for 25 years. I currently work in corrections but am in the process of changing jobs and will be doing behavioral health and drug addiction in adolescents. Richard works for our City sanitation department as a sanitation relocation engineer (his job description). He is a heavy equipment operator for the City. He talked about driving a truck through Detroit decades ago and how he was told NOT to stop even for stop signs or red lights. He said thugs would back trucks up to truck drivers back doors and cut the lock and off load their stuff into their truck/car and drive off!! I am thankful he doesn’t do that for a living any more!! We do the blog on the side. We also have a freelance photography business and do that on the side. I take and edit the photos and Richard is the chauffeur.

Our next question was from Olivia from England. Olivia’s email was so sweet and she said she loves listening to OUR voices because they are so Southern and comforting. Comforting!!! I think our voices sound ridiculous and am so thankful someone out there likes them! She wanted to know if we plan at any point to video our podcast. She wants to watch it vs just listen to it. Richard has talked about videoing the podcast for a few weeks now and we have actually talked to a few people with the right equipment and also about possibly renting some office space to set up an asylum outside of our home. We have found a sound studio locally that is willing to let us use his space to record…… Stay tuned for that one because it is in the works.

Leo in the UK asked what we like to do in our spare time besides the podcast. Leo, I LOVE anything related to photography. I also maintain the blog and have published one book called Tree of Life available on all platforms including Amazon and I am in the process of writing 2 more books, one is a fiction story based on actual events and one is an educational book about cancer and our personal journey with it. Richard is the family gardener and loves to plant and grow things. He currently has quite a few things growing including 7 orchids he is mastering. (right now they are controlling him though)! He said on the podcast he loves photography because he gets to spend time with me and since photography makes me happy it makes him happy. (yes he really is this good of a guy and will do anything to make me happy)!

We spent a few minutes talking about an upcoming podcast on Train to Busan and Peninsula. (I am super excited)!

The last question we had time for was from Glenn in Washington. He messaged me on Instagram and told me about his dog Trevor and asked how Banner was and if we had an update on him. We recently got some updated photos of Banner with his new mommy, Sierra. He now lives in Killen, Alabama with her and her family and her dog Daisy just made him a stepdaddy. She had 9 puppies! He is doing great and is happy and loving his new home! We talked a little about a guy Richard works with who is all into “woo woo” stuff as Richard calls it and we are convinced he has truly lost his mind as nothing he does or says makes any sense. He is a special kind of different.

We thank everyone who has written in and we hope to continue to add some STB episodes to the podcast and be able to answer and address all of the emails and messages! Our email address is thereelcouple@gmail.com
